It’s Dangerous to Go Alone is a tactical narrative RPG and roguelite deckbuilder set in an 80's fantasy of talking wolves, forgotten magic, quantum hoverbikes, and neon cities suspended above an abyssal void. Think Disco Elysium’s inner worlds, Slay the Spire’s cards, the teambuilding of Pokémon, and the myth of The Legend of Zelda.
You play as Lua, a vulnerable young wolf prophesized to defeat the monstrous Blight. You must recruit allies to argue on your behalf, survive the trials of the world, and fulfill their destiny.
Instead of health and mana, battles are fought with Reason and Feeling modeling difficult conversations as a tactical card game. This is not a kill system - conflicts conclude when one side abandons their argument. But whether disagreements end with hurt feelings or repaired connections is up to you and your team.
What first appears to be a simple card game with obvious morals soon becomes a multi-lifetime time loop of ethical dilemmas, false narratives, and coercive systems. Death resets the journey, but preserves learnings - allowing Lua to discover the true story over multiple lifetimes and perspectives. Because...

I have been a social outcast - and more interested in machines than people - for most of my life. I was very lucky and successful thanks to technology. If I had not been, I very easily could have been left behind, too.
There are millions of others like myself, many even more gifted - but who were less fortunate and ended up getting left behind, because our world rewards minds with different wiring than ours happened to come with.

I was faced with a choice: continue a profitable career in game development, and become a casino. Encourage the very things I see hurting others like me. Weaponize AI to widen the gap between those who understand psychology, and those who are exploited by it.
I chose to fight back - by making the playbook of manipulation open-source.
The novel is a love letter to my younger self - trying to give others like myself the tools I found helpful, packaged in a way that I might have actually listened to at the time.
